Thank you for visiting our site! The Ninth Hour is a dynamic duo with a number of abilities, but the purpose of this site is to document its work in translating Japanese art and gaming lore.

The two are known under the pseudonyms Dead Phoenix and Daytona. If you have a certain preference for talking to one half, specify it when contacting and he'll be prioritized in his reply.

Dead Phoenix handles the actual translation; Daytona usually handles typesetting, image manipulation and distribution.

Meet the halves

Dead Phoenix

Dead Phoenix is a Japanese-English translator with two books and several interviews to his name. His pen name is in reference to a cancelled video game by Capcom, "Dead Phoenix" of the Capcom Five, reflecting his goal of bringing to light stories that have rarely been spotlighted before, such as an underappreciated work of fiction or tales from an "unsung hero" of art.

Dead Phoenix is solely responsible for The Ninth Hour's X (formerly Twitter) account; if one wishes to contact him more directly through social media, it can be done through that.

Daytona

Daytona is a video editor, custom game content creator for one specific game and laser jewel engraver. He has a long portfolio of viral hits under his name, but each under a different identity; he currently edits for a local influencer crew along with the occasional game lore-related project. His pen name is in reference to the "Daytona USA" series of arcade games.

Rather more distant from the general public than Dead Phoenix, Daytona does not have a proper social media account at the moment; this is subject to future change. Anyone who wishes to contact Daytona may do so through The Ninth Hour's email address.
